Schooling: Williamson High School; Alderson-Broaddus College (Bachelor of Arts in Education: Double major in English/speech--magna cum laude); Marshall University - (Master of Arts in Education + 60 hours).

Work experience: Matewan High School, 1974-1977; Red Jacket Grade School, 1977-1979; Matewan High School, 1979-present; Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, adjunct faculty, English/speech, 1980-present.

Awards and recognition: 2006 West Virginia Teacher of the Year; 2004 Toyota International Teacher Program; 2001 Arch Coal Award for Teaching Excellence; Who's Who Among American Teachers; nominated for National Teacher's Hall of Fame; various state and county level committees and cadres; presenter at national conferences.

Hobbies: collecting antiques, reading, theatre, sewing.

Family: husband-Greg; son-Heath; cats-Streak, J.J., and Gray.
